This page introduces you to some of the new concepts and icons in the Tablane browser interface. Some will be familiar to you, some may not. If you have time, take a look at these now, otherwise come back to them through the Tablane Help menu later on. They will help you get the most out of the browser, and show you how we are attempting to make it easier to search and save content you find on the Internet.
We particularly like it when you tell us how to make things better. Our Forums have an increasing amount of useful information and discussion.

LANES
|
The first thing to note is that the Tablane browser has more than one
Lane
in its Window.
Each Lane is associated with a
Tab
- hence Tablane!
You do not need to have more than one Lane open at a time, but it is particularly
useful when comparing sites. You can have as many Lanes open as you want. Try this on a widescreen laptop if you can get hold of one.
|
-
At the top of each Lane there is also a set of icons which control that Lane specifically.
-
The
dark blue
bar (with Bleak House above) is the active Lane , and the
light blue
bar
(Children in Need) shows an
inactive Lane which can be made active simply by clicking on it.
An active Lane is the equivalent to the active Window in a conventional browser.
|
These arrows allow you to go to previous and next pages within a Lane.
They only appear when this is relevant.
Before you click on a link on a page, you can click on this
Lane Diverter
Once clicked the
Lane Diverter
will point either to the right or left.
This points you to the Lane where any new link in the Active Lane you now click on will appear.
These icons let you minimize and maximize the Lane, while keeping open its associated tab.
This will let you close both the Lane
and Tab.
This lets you close just the Lane
-
For a New Lane, select
from
-
You can use the down arrow beside the icon,
to bring up this Menu:
-
This lets you decide which site you wish to have appear in the new Lane.
TABS
Like many browsers, Tablane allows you to access quickly a number of pages you've already loaded in
distinct Tabs. The
dark blue
tab is always the active Tab for a particular Lane.
Beside the bar representing the tabs for the pages you are looking at, you will see some blue 'jelly bean' icons.
These are unique to Tablane as far as we know. They allow you to position the tabs as you wish.
Click on either the left or right jelly bean to display the Tabs either to the right or left.
When you see the beans like this, you can also position the tabs on top or on bottom of the screen.
-
For a New Tab, select
from
-
As with a new Lane, you can use the down arrow beside the icon
to bring up the Menu below and decide
what you want to appear in the new Tab:
COLLECTIONS
A Collection is Web document you make in Tablane automatically whenever you group bookmarks or
‘Favorites’ with notes and clippings from Web pages that you feel relate together. So a Collection
is like a scrapbook of your Web findings around a subject that interests you. The Collection document is much easier to
manage than your IE Favorites used to be. You can edit this document and build up pages that
can easily be used on a Web site. You can also share the Collection document with others by
email.
-
Your Internet Explorer Favorites are automatically converted into a Home Collection
when you first run Tablane. You can sort out your Collections from top main menu
-
In the drop down menu from Collections there is an option called
Manage Collections…
-
To browse your Collections select the Collections icon
from
-
You will see the Collection list like this:
-
has your IE Favorites.
-
has all the new Collections you will create.
-
To create a new Collection, click on
from
-
Write notes and paste in stuff from other Web sites by clicking on the note editor icon
from
-
Your active Collection will look something like this
test Collection:
and you can see that Collection contains both notes
and links
.
-
To see the Collection as a basic set of Web pages, right click on the title of the Collection,
in this case test, and choose:
-
All the bookmarks in a Collection can be opened as Tabs at once. To do this, select the Collections icon,
then point your cursor at the title of the Collection and click on the right mouse button.
You can then selecting the Open all as Tabs menu item.
-
The browser's top menu also has a Collections section through which bookmarks can be organised
into different Collections and new Collections can be created.
HISTORY
-
This history icon
displays the history of your recent Web browsing.
-
You can find it here:
-
When selected, your browsing history will appear as a side bar to the browser, and you can select
folders to display the history for a recent day or week:
